EA pulls out of Game :P

UPDATE: GAME has issued a statement to Eurogamer in response to the retailer’s decision not to stock Mass Effect 3, blaming it on a “supply issue”.
“We currently have a supply issue with regards to Mass Effect 3, which means that GAME and gamestation will not be able to fulfil orders for Mass Effect 3 at this time. We want to give customers as much notice about this as possible and provide them with a range of options ahead of launch.
“We appreciate that this is disappointing for our customers, and we apologise sincerely for the inconvenience that this will cause. We value the loyalty of our customers very highly and as a gesture of goodwill we are providing the following:
  • Customers who have pre-ordered in store, will have the opportunity to add £5 worth of Reward points to their card if they visit us from today through to 16 March 2012.
  • Customers who have placed a deposit for the title will receive refund as well as the £5 worth of Reward points between 1 and 16 March 2012.
  • Customers who have pre-ordered online, will be provided with an online voucher to the value of £5 to be spent on any purchase on our sites.
Eurogamer was told by GAME staff that customers will receive their refunds in store credit, not cash.
ORIGINAL STORY: GAME Group will not be stocking any EA games past SSX in March, including Mass Effect 3, Eurogamer has discovered. This encompasses all GAME and Gamestation stores.
Various GAME and Gamestation staff alerted Eurogamer to this situation after a company-wide memo was sent out at around 10.30am this morning.
Eurogamer has secured an image of this memo, which also reveals that FIFA Street 3, Tiger Woods 13 and Sims 3 Showtime will also not be stocked by GAME Group.
Eurogamer has corroborated this information with individual GAME Group stores. The last stocked EA game will be SSX, we were told.
If you have a pre-order, GAME will refund you bad credit loans via in-store credit, rather than with cash.
EA responded to Eurogamer’s request for comment by directing us to a Mass Effect 3 Launch Update website. GAME’s absence from the list of retailers speaks volumes.
This worrying text followed: “For customers who have pre-ordered the N7 Collector’s Edition please re-order your copies through these retailers.”
These are Amazon, Play, Zavvi and ShopTo.
“For further information regarding the Mass Effect 3 Standard Edition with the N7 Warfare Gear in-game weapons pack, please check this page later today,” the blurb continued.
“If you have placed a deposit for a pre-order or are uncertain that your existing pre-order will be guaranteed, please contact your local retailer.”unsecured loans
“Your local retailer is doing everything possible to make this process as smooth as possible to ensure you get your copy on launch day.”
HMV told Eurogamer it couldn’t comment on a competitor’s situation, but confirmed it would be stocking Mass Effect 3 and the rest of EA’s titles.
GAME Group hasn’t responded to Eurogamer’s request for comment.

Game will not stock everything

GAME: "We Can't Stock Absolutely Everything"
GAME's marketing director Anna-Marie Mason has spoken out about the big purple retailer's recent troubles, playing down some of the recent stock issues, and unsecured loans suggesting that "there's no one specific reason" regarding the lack of stock for certain niche titles. "
There isn't one specific catch-all reason," she continued. "We do endeavour to give our customers the widest possible range, whether it's GAME, Gamestation, online or in-store." bad credit loans

This all comes after GAME announced yesterday that it wouldn't be stocking Ubisoft's launch line-up for the Playstation Vita, having also cancelled pre-orders for the Special Edition of The Last Story just days before release.
"Part of our success as a business and part of our success with customers is we have the widest possible range we can bring to market. With Tekken, that was a very difficult decision that our business didn't have that title. But with regards to the Ubisoft titles, that is one moment in time," said Mason. "It doesn't mean to say we won't have that title or that part of our proposition on an on-going basis.
"We can't stock absolutely everything. That's just not possible."
Gamers might well ask the question why, after all if one of the most prominent specialist retailers in the country can't offer stock of mid-range and niche titles, who will?
"You can see, there's a finite amount of space in a store," Mason explained. "The same applies in a rational way to our online business. There isn't a definitive reason why we haven't been able to stock those two things most recently. But that may well change."
She was adamant that this was simply a blip, though, and stated unequivocally that "the instances we've had in the last couple of weeks are absolutely the exception, not the rule", going on to ask gamers not to lose faith in the company and pledging that pre-order fulfilment would "absolutely" be guaranteed for the games they are currently selling.
When asked by Eurogamer if GAME felt under threat from online retailers able to lower their prices without fear of huge physical overheads, Mason suggested that GAME offered something those retailers couldn't.
"It's well documented. In a marketplace like video games, there will always be somebody that's selling the game cheaper. That's not what we're about. We've never tried to be, or never wanted to operate like that.
"What our customers get from us, whether they shop with GAME or Gamestation, is more than a sterile transaction. They get the opportunity to transact with us in the way they want and they get added value. Our customers will vote with their feet.
"We still have two-and-a-half million people coming into our stores every week. Hopefully we've got something right."
Our thoughts on the matter have been rather clear, and we rather think that GAME could be doing more to provide value to physical customers.

Gotham City Impostors review.

Wow, two things jump out here: levelling and unlocks are not the reason many FPS titles are so popular nowadays, and if mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery then the guys at Monolith really, really love themselves some TF2. Bats vs Jokerz in 6v6 comedy deathmatches is the simple way to sum this up then, although everything from the attitude and style to weapons and teamplay tactics come straight from the plate of Valve's free to play masterpiece.
Gotham City Impostors
So, to start, a couple of positives: GCI is fun. It won't be challenging other titles for massive chunks of your time at any point, but for a quick half-hour here and there, it's great. Based around an idea of vigilantes and hooligans taking cues from Batman and the Joker and duking it out across the streets of Gotham with home made weapons and gadgets, GCI runs a huge levelling system (over 500 ranks, for Pete's sake, although really its 100 with five levels of "prestige") with bucketloads of unlocks and customisation options to put it on a par with the big boys. It's also very funny, with charm oozing out of every map, character and soundbite.

But, unfortunately, from there it starts to unravel a bit - GCI ships with a paltry 5 levels, across which three gametypes (team deathmatch, capture the flag, domination) can be played. Also, the majority of the unlockables and extras make little difference to core gameplay, with the exception of the odd overpowered weapon. And because of this, it all wears a bit too thin a bit too quickly - throw in some really crappy server issues, login bugs and horribly long load times (it takes around three minutes from firing up the game to get into a match) and I can't see a lot of players sticking around.
GCI isn't bad, just too little too soon

Gotham City Impostors
Which is a shame, as the potential here is huge, but it just feels rushed out of the door - there's just a lack of enough to do, and on top of this day one sees a load of small scale payable extras on sale. I just wanted to scream "Can I have the rest of the game before you flog me stuff?"

At it's core, GCI could be brilliant, and at times is - there's a lot of fun to be had with zipping around the maps on rollerskates with a rocket launcher, or grappling the upper levels with a sniper rifle. If you can get a few mates together all the better, as tactical character selections and a bit of communication make this a lot of fun, and more accessible than many FPS titles out there. But for all the unlocks, the actual core game is stale too fast, and Monolith need to have a good deal of free expansions and upgrades on the near horizon to warrant a purchase. bad credit loans
Gotham City Impostors

I'll leave you with this - this game as-is is 12 quid for 5 levels, three gameplay modes, and a bit of humour. You'll find TF2 as part of the Orange Box for a tenner online (or free on Steam if you have a PC), unsecured loans and with four other full games (three Half-Life titles and the original Portal), as well as loads of levels, unlocks and more, you'd be far better off with the original master of team combat. GCI isn't bad, just too little too soon, and hopefully a good bit of support could dredge this back into being something really worthy of the Batman moniker.
